Alfalfa is known for its moderate salinity tolerance, but irrigation and other common practices have driven many varieties past their salinity thresholds, and that costs valuable yield.

Once a soil salinity problem is identified in the soil or the irrigation water, you have several options to address it. A combination of improved genetics, soil amendments or salt management practices can be implemented. Improved salt-tolerant alfalfa varieties, like Hi-Gest^® 660, PGI 908S, AFX 960, CISCO II, AFX 1060 and Rugged raise the salinity threshold over unimproved varieties to maximize seasonal yield.
