Improved Salt-Tolerant Alfalfa
Managing Alfalfa on Saline Soils
Alfalfa is known for its moderate salinity tolerance, but irrigation and other common practices have driven many varieties past their salinity thresholds, and that costs valuable yield.
Once a soil salinity problem is identified in the soil or the irrigation water, you have several options to address it. A combination of improved genetics, soil amendments or salt management practices can be implemented. Improved salt-tolerant alfalfa varieties, like Hi-Gest® 660, PGI 908S, AFX 960, CISCO II, AFX 1060 and Rugged raise the salinity threshold over unimproved varieties to maximize seasonal yield.
